Spider-Man will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe without Andrew Garfield.

It's a sad time for Andrew Garfield fans, but a triumphant moment for comic book geeks, because Spider-Man is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For those of you who are confused about what this means, let me break it down for you: 'The Amazing Spider-Man' films and the original 'Spider-Man' trilogy (à la Tobey Maguire) were all produced by Sony - not Marvel Studios. Due to screen rights, this meant Spider-Man would never grace the same screens as Iron Man, Captain America, etc. 

Earlier this week, Marvel announced another Spider-Man reboot, with the web-slinger making his Marvel Studios debut in 'Captain America: Civil War' (set for release May, 2016). He will also star in his own film with a new look and a new director, to be released in 2017.

What does this mean? Firstly, Marvel Studios will cast a younger actor to play Peter Parker. So basically, no Andrew Garfield. Secondly, Spider-Man will take his rightful place amongst the Avengers (FYI: he's actually part of the Avengers in several comic book story lines). 

The decision has been received with mixed opinions - some are excited to see Spider-Man fighting crime alongside other Marvel superheroes, while others are sad we'll never get to see Andrew reprise his role (don't get me started on that unfinished story-line). 

There's no word on who'll play the new Peter Parker, but there's been plenty of buzz around Dylan O’Brien ('Teen Wolf') and Logan Lerman ('The Perks of Being a Wallflower').
